Phuket's China Tourism Booming With 'Huge Numbers' Coming

"Huge numbers" of Chinese are expected on Phuket with arrivals this year already surpassing last year's record number, says the Tourism Authority of Thailand.Six daily flights from China have deposited 400,000 Chinese visitors on Phuket so far in 2012, topping the 343,125 who came in 2011, TAT Assistant Director Wanaphapar Suksombul told a Phuket meeting yesterday. But fierce competition meant that safety standards were being undermined and Chinese tour companies often ripped off their own customers, the meeting heard at Provincial Hall in Phuket City.

Khun Wanaphapar emphasised the positive of the boom in travel from China to Phuket, making the point that the 400,000 visitors this year was a dramatic increase on the 80,000 who came four years ago."Huge numbers are coming now," she said. "From Asia China is number one, foll.owed by Malaysia and Korea."The traditional independent traveller markets of Europe, Scandinavia and Australia are making way, but at a cost to safety and security.Chinese tour operators were known to sell packages to travellers then cut or change the items in tours in the package to take a bigger profit for themselves.

The President of the Phuket Professional Guides Association, Panomphol "Pete" Thummachartniyom, said that Phuket's guides spoke excellent Chinese because family members came from there to Phuket. But the Chinese tour companies brought their own guides, he said."The Chinese tour companies bring Chinese guides and it's the Chinese tour companies who make trouble for Chinese tourists," he said. "But because these problesm occur on Phuket, it's Phuket's reputation that suffers."

Baucus starts dignitary tour at Bozeman business

Fishing waders might be an apt prop for a congressman wading muddy political waters. But on Tuesday, Sen. Max Baucus used waders to demonstrate the kind of business he wants to attract to Montana. The senator spent much of the day meeting employees and learning the various tasks carried out at Bozeman manufacturer Simms Fishing Products, a Montana-owned company.Simms is the kind of company Baucus wants to promote to foreign dignitaries on his upcoming Ambassadors’ Tour as an example of the quality and workmanship they can find in Montana.

Unique Vacation Ideas for your China Travel Holidays. It’s also an example of the global chain that Baucus would like to link into. Simms imports its raw material, Gore-Tex, from Japan and then exports a variety of recreational gear worldwide.Baucus watched it all come together as he helped employees build and package high-end waders for the growing recreation market.Surrounded by the hiss of Gore-Tex taping machines and the smell of synthetic material, Baucus carefully folded a $500 pair of waders and placed them in a display box, adding the crowning touch of a U.S. flag sticker indicating it was made in America.

Then he went to observe the quality control area, where he watched workers reject a pair of waders for a tiny flaw.“I’m very impressed with the dedication and quality here,” Baucus said. “The quality is world-renowned. Montanans have a great work ethic, and this is the perfect Montana company to show that.”Later, Baucus presented the company with his Montana Jobs Economic Engine distinction, which he uses to recognize businesses that attract investors and business to Montana. Wheat Montana and several breweries have been past recipients.

Chartered flights from China affected by suspension of tour packages to the PHL

Chartered flights from mainland China are the most affected by the suspension of tour packages to the Philippines, according to representatives of Chinese Travel Agencies at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Sunday. Most of the affected chartered flights are from Beijing, Shanghai and Xiamen, all bound for Boracay while the regular flights are not yet affected by the announcement, Shirley Lai, a travel agency representative at NAIA for 30 years, said.

Lai said she handles around 20-50 Chinese tourists a day, which have flight schedules of the affected chartered flights of Air Philippines, Cebu Pacific, and Zest Air.She is expecting Chinese tourists on a package tour who are set to arrive on May 10, 11, and 12 for Boracay, but unfortunately the flights have been cancelled due to the announcement."Sana matapos na ang gusot na ito kasi sayang din ang pera na mapupunta sa gobyerno dahil lumalakas ang turismo dahil din sa mga Chinese na pumupunta sa atin," Lai stressed, adding she is expecting the "worst to come" if the problem would not be resolved as early as possible.

The Service Providers Makes The Tours Cheap And Affordable.Reports said Beijing International Travel Service and other travel agencies in China have halted all tours to the Philippines and stopped accepting bookings until the situation improves.China recently told its citizens they're not safe in the Philippines and its state media warned of war, as a month-long row over rival claims in the South China Sea threatened to spill out of control.
