A former serviceman has been jailed for carrying a knife into an Okehampton pub after walking out of a mental health assessment.Police disarmed Steven Collins in the White Hart and found a sinister arsenal of other weapons at a house where he had been staying with his brother.Collins, 32, is an ex-serviceman who has been receiving help from the British Legion but has a string of convictions for carrying knives and other weapons.On this occasion he had a black holdall which contained three knives, a pair of scissors, a screw driver and pliers, Exeter Crown Court was told.Collins, of no fixed abode but most recently living in Hertfordshire, admitted having a bladed article in a public place and was jailed for six months.Mr Gareth Evans, for the prosecution, said police were alerted on November 15 this year after Collins walked out of a mental health assessment in Okehampton and it was thought he may have a knife with him.Officers found him at the bar of the White Hart Hotel and took him to the floor where they took a knife off him and arrested him.They visited his brother Thomas' home and found the other weapons in the holdall. His brother told the officers 'Steven must be collecting weapons again'.Mr Evans said Collins has five previous convictions for similar cases which have led to short jail terms in the past.
